#4: Where to live

This next topic is a bit difficult to make any clear conclusion on. I’m probably very biased because I was born and raised in a small suburb (Sejs) to a small town (Silkeborg) in the middle of Jylland, where everyone kinda knew each other.

When selecting a place to settle down there are soooo many things to consider, and maybe you don’t even have a 100% free choice, but here are some of my thoughts:

  • In big cities there are a lot of people to meet, but they are all busy.
  • In small towns you really need to be outgoing yourself, but your local friend might be more available overall.
  • Copenhagen and Aarhus has a lot of club activities to offer and almost free events every day.
  • People tend to transport themselves more willingly towards downtown rather than out of town.
  • If you are coming here for study a kollegie could be a good place to start
  • If you are past study but arrive alone, try to look into shared housing. Kollektiv is more than just sharing a roof. You often have dinner together as well.

Since I’m a nature boy, I already knew when I moved to Aarhus in the first place, that I wouldn’t stay here for more than about 5 years, and I can really hear the nature calling for me.

If you are into collective living, eco-vilages or just something cheap close to nature, you should ask someone about Djursland and Sydfyn.

If you just want to share a flat with someone, you could check out findroommate.dk
