#3: When in Rome

…do as the Romans! And by this I obviously mean “do as the locals”.

It is a very human behavior to search for others that seems to be somewhat similar to oneself. At the same time we put everyone else in the “Other” group with a little more distance to ourselves.

All animals do this, but we often think of ourselves to be better even though we share most of the same brain structures.

So let’s be honest to ourselves: If we want to be part of a group, how can we best show the group, that we belong?

As my mother has tried to teach me for so long:

“You cannot expect others to change”

It is not up to us to show others, that their way is wrong. But we can always try to inspire.

This is not only true in societies, but also in relationships with your partner or friend. When YOU show the other person, that YOU accept their way of living, then THEY will let their guard down and let you in.

This blog post has 65 statements about Danish behavior listed in a quite funny writing style. I can really recommend you to already start practicing your licorice consumption. If you can eat licorice, you are sure to get a thumbs up from the Danes.
