Last but not least, Denmark is a tough nut!
You basically need to know, that Denmark has once again been voted for as one of the toughest countries to really integrate in. Many people from (especially) the south has said:
“Danish people are cold people” or “Danish people are quite closed”
and there is some truth in this.
October 2019 I was attending a Erasmus+ program on the Spanish island, Tenerife, where I got the chance to talk with a very knowledgeable woman from Romania, who had lived and studied in Denmark for several years, but now she had moved to Tenerife because she had fallen in love with the island and never really felt home in Denmark.
Anca had many thoughts about why she didn’t integrate well in Denmark, and one of the things that stuck with me was this:
The climate makes people different!
The colder the climate, the more people have to stay indoors, and when you go out you have a plan. “Times be wastin” the pirates say… we are simply not ready to chit-chat. At least not when we have other plans and especially not in the winter time, which is basically 8 months of the year.
So if you are used to talk with people in the street, you might be a great Facer for Unicef, but there are better places to hook up with new friends.
